Event Report

Day6 Bungy Time

Adrenaline and speed come in many different forms! And we think we had so far given the Euro Blasters a continual hit of both from the start of the tour. On day 6 though for those who bravely, or as some would describe stupidly signed up for the worlds biggest Bungee jump, they would receive the grandest hit of them all.

Graham in flight

The plan was to leave after a chilled breakfast and drive through Italy into Switzerland, where we lunched near to the Verzasca Dam, and on the huge and picturesque Lake Maggiore in a stunning lakeside town called Ascona. Then we do the crazy bungy, before ripping over some of Switzerland’s most famous and stimulating passes before resting up on the hotel veranda and looking out over its lake.

Then it was on to the Dam - A 220m dive that was featured so beautifully in the Bond film Goldeneye. At this height we flew for approaching 8 seconds and reached near terminal velocity, which is the maximum speed nature allows un-propelled objects to achieve, a face rippling 128mph!

BUNGY JUMP Video with Thanks to Roger

Doing this jump was truly incredible, an amazing life experience, one of such magnitude I tingle as I write this and stare at the photo's. There were nerves standing on that platform, but as soon as the Jump-Master positioned me on the ledge, shouted 'ready', then counted down from three, they vanished.  All that was left were a clear thoughts and great anticipation of a mind-blowing rush. He shouted 'JUMP', and I leapt immediately, unthinkingly out as I high as I could. There before me were the faces of all of the Euro Blast guys clinging to the Dams railings, all shouting and cheering..... I fell to earth and my mind was so clear, relaxed and strangely peaceful as I free-falled for nearly 8 seconds.

The Bungy went taught, I stopped, metres from the rocky floor, I could almost touch it, if I reached.... Then from the tension in the stretched Bungy I was flung skywards like a rag-doll. I raced towards to the blue hue above and surprisingly attained a height two thirds up the wall of the Dam in seconds, and then slowly, stomach churning I arced and fell back down again. This repeated two more times to a lesser degree, each one I revelled in the free-fall, and hollered during in the roller-coaster ride of the acceleration and deceleration, with my screams of pure excitement echoing off the valley and Dam walls; the ride was staggering, fantastic and phenomenal. I wanted to do it again!

The Adrenaline flowed for hours to come.

And to top-off the day we had some Swiss passes to enjoy.

The Swiss passes, snowy, some wet, some dry, but all a great drive

We arrived at our Lakeside Hotel early evening, the jumpers still buzzing and the spectators feeding off their excitement and everybody revelling in this unique experience. So it was time for beer and great food.
