Day3 Canyon to Coast

EB09 Report Menu

Today we headed further East through some incredibly rocky scenery from our Canyon layer in the heart of the Pyrenees over to the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. These jagged edged roads snaked unrelentingly through tight valleys, and along shear mountain sides – one such challenge was 10miles of 2nd gear nirvana - to our third nights destination which is an historic 13th century fort town called Collioure, that is just over the Spanish border in the very south of France.

The undisputed jewel of the Côte Vermeille region is the fishing town of Collioure, was our destination

But first we had to get there, and it proved to be one of the best and most enjoyable days. The mountain roads were in our opinion some of the best of any Euro Blast, and we have pretty much driven them all over the years.

Opening the curtains to blues skies                  The empty enthralling passes began immediately

Evo convoy stopping for a break - Martin & Tony taking in the views and the gorge behind them - Martin & Tony's convoy in a deep gorge

Porsche basking in the sunlight of the gorge - We can see out way out and to the East - Martin & Tony catching up - Road above river below

What differs these roads from say the Alps?? Well in a word that would be fluidity.

They posses above any other we have driven an innate ability to keep you and your car constantly flowing from one bend to another, without pause for braking or long blasts of acceleration. Your mind is computing the next bend before you have exited the last, while still spinning from the buzz of getting that bend so right. You eventually settle into a meld with your car and the road, seamlessly and totally thrilling.

Roads open, revealing impressive rockery

Lunch atop a large hill overlooking a town and a lush valley - And of course the odd fuel stop, but, with great views

VIDEO from one of the amazing fluid passes. With Thanks to Mountain Monkey Productions.

We made it to the Med - A very welcome splash in the pool, it was a hot day - And nearly another splash out in the Port

Post dinner, drinks on the beach, a superb way to chill the early hours away!

This was an epic day of driving, thrills and sights by even Euro Blast standards. The pool, cold beer and the evening spent in a beautiful fort town was the perfect way to end.......
