Day2 Track Attack & the Ordessa Canyon

The Day started early but musically. The group over dinner the night before felt that Stormy one the trip organisers looked remarkably similar to Scott Tracy from Thunderbirds, and thus one clever spark had blue-toothed the theme tune to everyone. So when he emerged a little blurry eyed into the dining room the tune rang out from many mobile phones, to our delight and his shock and horror. You decide.....

From then on we knew this was to be a special trip with a group of excellent people. All we needed now were the roads................ But first our private track morning on Pau-Arnos circuit.

After lunch we headed south up and into the Pyrenees towards our Canyon night stop. At first the mountains were mearly many undulating hills, that looked like the Shire from Lord of the Rings, lush green and scenic. And the roads tight and twisty were through woodland, a national forest, and around farmland.

Then it rained, but this just added to the driving challenge, and afterall that is why we are here, to drive incredible roads. And they soon got steeper, rapidly snaking left to right and we began to climb up the heart of the Pyrenees mountain range and towards Spain. We could even see snow. They were scary, demanding, tight, fast and had rock-strewn descents with the road acting as a frame for the glorious scenery of ragged unfertile mountains and lush valleys. Only two gears were needed and all the revs the engine could handle.

The first group made Torla in the stunning Ordessa Canyon early evening, rain gone, and blue skies beginning to emerge. It was a fantastic first day tackling the roads we had driven so far south to experience and they had not let us down. Simply exhilarating!
